Ye was attempting to find a new brand for his Yeezy shoes.

Over the past week, Ye, the rapper formerly known as Kanye West, has effectively become persona-non-grata following a string of racist and antisemitic comments in interviews and his social media. These particular comments have proven to be the straw that broke the camel’s back, as numerous brands and companies have announced that they will no longer be doing business with Ye.

One of the most prominent of these companies was sportswear manufacturer Adidas, which previously sold Ye’s personal brand of Yeezy sneakers. Without Adidas to handle the sales, Ye has apparently been shopping around for a new company to work with. This is why, on Wednesday, Ye showed up unannounced to the Los Angeles office of shoe manufacturer Sketchers. Ye apparently hoped that Sketchers would ink a deal with him for Yeezys, but he was swiftly escorted out of the office and told not to return.

“Considering Ye was engaged in unauthorized filming, two Skechers executives escorted him and his party from the building after a brief conversation,” the company said in an official statement. “Skechers is not considering and has no intention of working with West. We condemn his recent divisive remarks and do not tolerate antisemitism or any other form of hate speech. The Company would like to again stress that West showed up unannounced and uninvited to Skechers corporate offices.”

The end of the Adidas deal dealt a severe blow to Ye’s net worth, knocking him off of Forbes’ billionaires list and leaving him with a net worth of approximately $400 million. This morning, Ye posted on his Instagram about this turn of events, writing “I LOST 2 BILLION DOLLARS IN ONE DAY.”

“THE MONEY IS NOT WHO I AM … THE PEOPLE IS WHO I AM.”
