Gypsy Rose Blanchard Released from Prison After Eight Years

Gypsy Rose Blanchard has been released from prison after serving eight years, ready to share her story and move forward.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard, known for her involvement in the murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, has been released from the Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri after serving eight years in prison. The Missouri Department of Corrections confirmed her release at approximately 3:30 a.m. local time.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE conducted just before her release, Gypsy expressed her readiness for freedom, stating, “I’m ready to expand, and I think that goes for every facet of my life.”

Gypsy, now 32 years old, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in July 2016 after pleading guilty to her role in the fatal stabbing of her mother. Having served 85 percent of her sentence, including time spent in the Greene County Jail before transfer to the Missouri Department of Corrections, she was eligible for parole.

Following her mother’s death, it was revealed that Dee Dee had fabricated Gypsy’s medical issues, and Gypsy was a victim of Munchausen by proxy syndrome, a rare form of abuse in which a guardian exaggerates or induces illness in a child for attention and sympathy.

In her interview with PEOPLE, Gypsy expressed regret for her actions, stating, “No one will ever hear me say I’m proud of what I did or I’m glad that she’s dead. I’m not proud of what I did. I regret it every single day.”

Since her incarceration, Gypsy has reflected on her past, acknowledging her mother’s illness and manipulation. She has since married Ryan Anderson, a Louisiana teacher, whom she met and married while in prison.

Gypsy is set to share her story in Lifetime’s docuseries, “The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard,” premiering on January 5, 2024. She hopes to use her experience to raise awareness about abusive relationships and prevent others from resorting to extreme measures.
