Guess they’re not quite there for you just yet.

Friends, or the full title of F.R.I.E.N.D.S if you prefer, is one of the most ubiquitous TV romcoms of the last several decades of pop culture. Even if you’ve never watched a single episode of the show, at least one clip or quote from it has likely ingrained itself in your memory without you realizing it. I’ve only seen a few scattered episodes myself, but even I know enough to say that Ross and Rachel were on a break. They were on a break! They both said it! Anyway, to appeal to all those with enduring nostalgia for the show, a reunion special has been in the works for a while, with the entire main cast set to attend. Unfortunately, current circumstances have once again mucked everything up. Thanks, 2020.

The Friends reunion special was originally supposed to be filmed in August for streaming on HBO Max. The whole thing was supposed to be held on the show’s original soundstage on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, California. When Jennifer Aniston teased the reunion on her Instagram last year, hype levels went off the charts, so this was definitely going to happen. But like so many other major events, the COVID-19 pandemic has made running them simply not feasible.

Matthew Perry, who played Chandler Bing on the show, announced on his Twitter today that while the reunion special is definitely still on, it has been delayed to March of 2021. “Looks like we have a busy year coming up,” he wrote, adding that he’s perfectly fine with that.

As far as anyone knows, everyone in the cast is still hale and hearty, and ready to film the reunion special. Hopefully, once things are a little bit safer out there, we can finally get this thing on tape.
