Hold onto your hot cocoa—things are about to get wildly awkward in Couples Weekend, the upcoming comedy where romance goes on vacation… and common sense stays home.

Starring Alexandra Daddario, Daveed Diggs, Josh Gad, and Ashley Park, the film brings together two seemingly happy couples for a cozy New Year’s getaway in a snowy cabin. What could possibly go wrong? (Spoiler: everything.)

The trouble begins when an innocent morning walk turns into the worst accidental discovery ever. Thanks to a conveniently falling tree—nature’s most dramatic third wheel—two of the vacationers get a front-row view of their partners sneaking around behind their backs. Yes, it’s exactly as messy as it sounds.

But wait, it gets better (or worse, depending on your relationship status). A mysterious cocktail enters the scene, lowering inhibitions faster than you can say “bad decisions.” Suddenly, secrets spill, loyalties flip, and the cozy cabin transforms into a battleground of awkward confrontations, emotional chaos, and hilariously bad timing.

Directed by Nora Kirkpatrick in her feature debut, the film blends comedy and drama into a relatable (and slightly unhinged) story about love, lies, and the things we probably shouldn’t see through cabin windows.

Originally premiering at the Tribeca Festival under the title A Tree Fell in the Woods, the film quickly gained attention for its sharp humor and painfully honest take on relationships—because nothing says “Happy New Year” like unexpected betrayal and a questionable drink choice.

With a cast that’s no stranger to scene-stealing performances—Daddario fresh from I Wish You All the Best, Gad bringing his signature comedic chaos, Diggs adding charm, and Park delivering wit—the movie promises a rollercoaster of laughs, gasps, and “did-that-just-happen?” moments.

Couples Weekend arrives in theaters and on digital platforms May 8. Whether you’re single, taken, or “it’s complicated,” this is one vacation you’ll be glad you’re not actually on.
