Wordle Helps Woman Rescue Kidnapped Mother
Denyse Holt’s daughter alerted the authorities when her mother hadn’t sent a Wordle update.
Word game Wordle has quickly become the newest flavor of the month, with its simple five-letter guessing game structure providing a fun activity for friends and family to engage in, even if they don’t live together. Wordle has gained popularity has a tool for distant or isolated family members to remain in contact with one another, a tool which proved invaluable for Illinois resident Denyse Holt and her daughter.
Holt, who is 80 years old, regularly exchanges Wordle updates with her oldest daughter, Meredith Holt-Caldwell. This is why, when Holt-Caldwell didn’t receive an update from her mother on Monday, along with multiple texts going unread, she knew something was wrong. As it turns out, Holt had been attacked within her own home by a naked invader, who confined her to the basement for approximately 17 hours and disabled the house’s phones.

Holt-Caldwell sent word to the authorities that her mother was unresponsive, and when they arrived on the scene, the invader was immediately apprehended and Holt was safely extracted, shaken but physically unharmed.
The invader has been identified as 32-year-old James H. Davis III, who now faces criminal charges for home invasion with a dangerous weapon, aggravated assault against a peace officer and aggravated kidnapping while armed with a dangerous weapon.
