WNBA talent in the 2023 draft, as Aliyah Boston was selected as the No. 1 overall pick by the Indiana Fever.

Boston, a 6-foot-5 center, was a force for the Gamecocks during college, earning SEC Defensive Player of the Year honors twice and leading South Carolina to the NCAA Women’s Final Four in 2021. She averaged 15.8 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game during her time in college, and her skills as a dominant defender and rebounder make her a valuable addition to any team in the league.

The Fever had the first overall pick in the draft, making it clear that Boston was their top choice. “Aliyah is a special player who can impact the game on both ends of the floor,” said Fever head coach Marianne Stanley. “She has a unique combination of size, athleticism, and skill, and we believe she has a very bright future in the league.”

“Our goal is to prepare our players for success at the next level, and we’re proud of the hard work and dedication that Aliyah and all of our players have put in to get to this point,” said South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley.

The 2023 WNBA season promises to be exciting, with new talent entering the league and established stars looking to make their mark. Aliyah Boston and the other South Carolina players selected in the draft are poised to make an immediate impact, and we can’t wait to see them in action.
