The life of a footballer may seem glamorous, but it’s not all sunshine and rainbows, especially for the wives of these players. Just ask Hiba Abouk, the 36-year-old Spanish wife of Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi. She recently went to a French court seeking a divorce and half of her husband’s wealth following his involvement in an alleged rape case but walked away empty-handed.
To her surprise, the Moroccan defender had no properties or money in the bank, or so she was told by the court, as Hakimi had registered his fortune in his mother’s name. According to media reports, Abouk lodged her divorce claim and demanded half of the World Cup star’s fortune before she discovered the bitter truth that Hakimi’s mother had it all.
French prosecutors said in March that 24-year-old Hakimi had been indicted on rape charges after being questioned by investigators. While the case is ongoing, his wife was astonished when the court told her that more than 80 percent of his salary was credited to his mother’s bank account.

The star appears to have no properties, cars, or jewelry registered in his name, and his mother purchases everything he wants. The media reports have estimated Hakimi’s wealth to exceed $70 million, which is all registered in his mother’s name. The court officials reportedly told Abouk that her husband legally owned nothing and that all his millions, including his PSG salary, were registered under his mother’s name.
This revelation must have come as a shock to Abouk, who had presumably assumed that she would be entitled to half of her husband’s wealth in the event of a divorce. But unfortunately for her, the court ruled otherwise.
It remains to be seen how the case will progress, but it seems that Hakimi’s mother is the one who holds all the cards. This case reminds footballers, and their wives should be cautious when managing their finances and assets, as things can get complicated quickly. In the meantime, Abouk will have to find a way to move on from this disappointment and seek solace elsewhere.
