Vice President Kamala Harris joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in a cameo appearance during Saturday’s cold open. Playing off her popular SNL impersonation, Harris appeared alongside Maya Rudolph, her comedic doppelgänger, in a memorable and lighthearted moment urging viewers to “Keep calm-ala and carry on-ala.”

The sketch began with SNL actors portraying the candidates in a last-minute campaign push, including James Austin Johnson as Donald Trump. As the scene transitioned, viewers saw Rudolph as Harris, joined by comedians Jim Gaffigan as running mate Tim Walz, Andy Samberg as her husband, Doug Emhoff, and Dana Carvey as President Joe Biden. In a playful twist, Rudolph’s Harris looked in a mirror only to see the real Harris on the other side, dressed identically. “It’s nice to see you again, Kamala,” said the real VP, delivering an encouraging message: “You got this.”

The comedic pair performed a rhyming pep talk, infusing humor into election season with lines like, “The American people want to stop the chaos and end the drama-la.” In a touching conclusion, the real Harris and Rudolph joined to deliver the classic SNL line, “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!”

This appearance comes as a unique crossover between politics and comedy, showcasing Harris’ appreciation of Rudolph’s spot-on impersonation, which she praised on The View last month. SNL creator Lorne Michaels previously indicated that major candidates would likely not appear this season due to election regulations, making this Harris cameo a surprising and memorable exception.

Kamala Harris joins a list of notable political figures who have made appearances on Saturday Night Live, including former presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush, and 2016 candidate Hillary Clinton. The segment, hosted by comedian John Mulaney, was well-received by fans and marked a memorable moment in the show’s history.

For viewers, this lighthearted SNL appearance highlighted Harris’ down-to-earth personality and offered a comedic interlude in the tense final days of the election campaign.
