Channing Tatum Offers Support to Zoë Kravitz on First Day Directing ‘Blink Twice’
Zoë Kravitz’s directorial debut with Blink Twice hit a nerve on its first day of filming, turning what was meant to be a milestone into a formidable challenge. The actor-turned-director confides that the initial day on set was “honestly terrifying,” prompting a heartfelt pep talk from her fiancé, Channing Tatum.
A Challenging Start
Kravitz, who took over seven years to bring Blink Twice to the screen, admits that the first day of shooting was far from a smooth start. The day involved a complex group scene set by the pool, which proved to be overwhelming for the debut director.
“It was really overwhelming because any scene with more than two people in it is mayhem,” Kravitz told Entertainment Weekly. “It was the entire cast by the pool, which, looking back, I would have not planned it that way because I was definitely overwhelmed. We had this really long water shot, and it was a big way to start.”
Support from Channing Tatum
Adding to the stress was the challenging filming environment in Mexico’s summertime heat, which further intensified the day’s difficulties. Kravitz describes returning to her room at the end of the day, feeling disheartened and uncertain about her decision to direct.
Fortunately, Tatum, who also stars in the film as billionaire tech mogul Slater King, provided crucial emotional support. “Chan had to give me a nice big pep talk, which was incredibly helpful,” Kravitz shared. His encouragement played a key role in helping her navigate the tough start.
Looking Back
Despite the rocky beginning, Kravitz reflects on the experience with a sense of learning. She recognizes that starting with a smaller scene might have been less daunting but acknowledges that the first day is often the hardest and scariest for any new director.
As Blink Twice moves forward, Kravitz and Tatum’s collaborative spirit remains a driving force behind the film. The psychological thriller, which also stars Naomi Ackie and Alia Shawkat, promises to deliver a gripping narrative about a luxury party that turns into a desperate struggle for survival.
