The new stories are slated to be even more dramatic and cinematic.

Originally airing its first season in the early 2010s, Black Mirror is a Twilight Zone-esque anthology of standalone drama-thrillers, many of which focus on topics such as unrestricted technological and scientific development and dystopian societies. The show ran for five seasons, originally running on television in the UK before making the jump to Netflix, which is where it really hit it big. It’s been three years since the fifth season ended, leaving the show’s future uncertain, but it seems we’re due for some more existential dread very soon.

According to a Variety report released today, a new season of Black Mirror is in production and slated to begin streaming on Netflix again in the not-too-distant future. While the major details of the production have been kept strictly confidential, a source allegedly close to the proceedings told Variety that fans can expect bigger, more cinematic production values for all of the new stories.

Back in 2020, Black Mirror’s creator, Charlie Brooker, expressed uncertainty about the future of the series, given the current exhausting state of the world at large. “At the moment, I don’t know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart, so I’m not working away on one of those. I’m sort of keen to revisit my comic skill set, so I’ve been writing scripts aimed at making myself laugh,” Brooker told the UK’s Radio Times magazine. In spite of Brooker’s doubt, though, the show is continuing, though the precise premier date is still a mystery.
