‘Power Rangers’ Alum Jason David Frank Dead at 49

Frank was known and beloved for his numerous appearances on the long-running show.

On Saturday, Justine Hunt, manager to screen and martial arts star Jason David Frank, publicly confirmed that he had passed away in his Texas home. He was 49 years old.

The official cause of Frank’s passing has not been has not been divulged, with Hunt requesting the “privacy of his family and friends during this horrible time as we come to terms with the loss of such a wonderful human being” in a statement to the Associated Press.

In addition to his illustrious martial arts career, during which he was inducted into the World Karate Union Hall of Fame and the Black Belt Hall of Fame, Frank was best known for his role as Tommy Oliver, also known as the Green Ranger, in the 90s television series Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. Though his role in the show was originally planned to be brief, he became a breakout hit among its viewers, with his character returning as the White Ranger in the series second season, followed by roles as the Red Ranger in subsequent series Power Rangers Zeo and Power Rangers Turbo.

In the following years, Frank would make regular appearances throughout the franchise in either cameo roles or, in the case of Power Rangers Dino Thunder, as a main character. To this day, his performances in the Power Rangers franchise have been some of the most beloved by longtime fans.

“Can’t believe it… RIP Jason David Frank. My heart is sad to have lost another member of our special family,” Walter Jones, one of Frank’s castmates on the original Power Rangers, wrote on Instagram following the news of his passing. Frank is survived by two sons and two daughters.
