Is Iron Mike returning to the ring?

Mike Tyson, also known as “Iron Mike,” “Kid Dynamite,” and “The Baddest Man on the Planet,” is one of the most legendary competitors in the history of professional boxing, holding multiple titles during his heyday in the 80s and 90s. Unfortunately, after a three-year prison sentence and a shaky attempt at a comeback in the early 2000s, Tyson quit the sport, saying that he had lost his passion for it. It seems, however, that that passion may have reignited.

Tyson turned some heads last week when he posted a training video to his Twitter showcasing his impressive strength and speed despite being in his early fifties. Heads turned even further on Monday when Tyson posted a training montage video to his Instagram. This video showed his fists swinging wildly as he let loose a series of growls and grunts, and at the very end of the video, he utters two words: “I’m back.”

While this is not an official declaration of return to boxing as a sport, Tyson has recently admitted that he would like to return to the ring for some exhibition matches to raise money for charity. Since he posted his training montage, he has had no shortage of challengers eager for a shot at the legendary Iron Mike. These challengers include rugby players Sonny Bill Williams and Paul Gallen, as well as Evander Holyfield, a professional boxer whom Tyson fought multiple times during their careers.

While he hasn’t boxed in over a decade, Tyson has made a place for himself in the public consciousness, mostly thanks to the entertainment industry. He is well-known for his cameos in the Hangover film series, and even created and starred in his own animated comedy on Adult Swim, Mike Tyson Mysteries, which aired its fourth season near the beginning of the year.
