FBI Raids Home of YouTuber Jake Paul
A federal search warrant was executed.
YouTube personality Jake Paul had his mansion home in Calabasas, California raided by FBI agents executing a federal search warrant. According to the bureau, Paul is under suspicion of connection to a riot that occurred at the Scottsdale Fashion Square mall in Arizona a couple of months ago. Large scale looting and vandalism occurred at the mall, with video footage allegedly placing Paul at the scene of the crime. Paul’s lawyer has repeatedly denied these allegations.
While nobody was arrested during the raid on Paul’s house (apparently, Paul wasn’t home at the time), numerous firearms scattered around the property were confiscated. The bureau has refused to comment on the nature or purpose of the search, but rumors have surfaced that it is related to a large party Paul hosted on his property two weeks ago. Video of this party showed a distinct lack of social distancing and face masks, which prompted criticism from Calabasas Mayor Alicia Weintraub.
“I was very upset that somebody would hold such an outrageous gathering in our community,” the mayor told ABC News. “We’re trying to do everything we can to get our numbers down and keep our community safe, and something like this just does the opposite.”
In an effort to expedite the FBI’s investigation of Paul, the Scottsdale, Arizona Police Department has dropped the charges against Paul for his supposed part in the mall looting.
“The Scottsdale Police Department and Scottsdale City Attorney’s Office are coordinating with the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona and the FBI to ensure that justice is served regarding criminal acts at Scottsdale Fashion Square on May 30, 2020,” the department said in a news release.
“It is in the best interest of the community to dismiss misdemeanor charges without prejudice so that a federal criminal investigation can be completed. Scottsdale retains the option to refile charges depending on the outcome of the federal investigation,” the release added.
