Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt to Star in Superhero Film ‘Ball and Chain’
The two will star as a pair of married heroes with a rocky relationship.
Ever since the Marvel cinematic universe paused post-Endgame, there’s been a bit of hole where the massive superhero movie industry once was. There have certainly been entries here and there, plus stuff in the pipeline (far, far in the pipeline, thanks to the pandemic), but overall, the entertainment scene has backed off from superheroes a bit. But as anyone could’ve predicted, that wasn’t going to last forever; it’s time for some more superheroes, and we’re starting with a relatively unknown duo.
Oscar nominee Emily V. Gordon is currently working on a superhero filmed based on the 90s comic book miniseries Ball and Chain. Ball and Chain follows the misadventures of married couple Edgar and Mallory Bulson, who on the verge of divorcing are granted incredible abilities by a meteorite. The catch is that their powers are only at their strongest when the two are together, so they’ll need to figure their relationship out if they want to save the world.
Staring in the roles of the Bulsons will be Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Emily Blunt, who are also acting as producers for the film under Johnson’s production company, Seven Bucks. Coincidentally, both actors are starring together in Disney’s Jungle Cruise, which will be in theaters July 2021 after a delay from its July 2020 release due to the pandemic.
The film has not yet secured a distribution deal with a studio, though according to Variety, Netflix is a prime target.
