Third Round of COVID Home Tests Now Available
This may be the last round unless additional funding is secured.
As COVID-19 case numbers begin to tick up again around the United States, national safety measures are once again being deployed to ensure the wellbeing of the populace. One such measure is the Biden Administration’s home testing initiative. Twice now has the USPS delivered free home COVID test kits, and the service has been deployed for the third, and what may be the last, time.
As with before, if you visit the home testing website, you can input your name and address to have a set of home COVID test kits delivered to you through the postal service for no charge. This time around, those who request tests will receive eight units in total, spread out over two separate deliveries. Counting these along with the previous kits, this brings the grand total of delivered kits per person to 16.
The funding for these free tests came from last year’s stimulus package, the funding from which has just about been exhausted. The Biden Administration has pushed for an additional $22.5 billion for additional waves of testing and vaccines, warning that unless more funding is secured, no more free tests can be sent out.

“Due to Congress’s failure to provide additional funding for the nation’s COVID-19 response, the Administration cannot continue making the types of federal investments needed to sustain domestic testing manufacturing capacity, and this may jeopardize the federal government’s ability to provide free tests moving forward,” reads the White House’s fact sheet on the matter.
