One more streaming service for the pile.

As an early adopter of streaming stuff, I’ve never actually used a Redbox kiosk. The last time I even used a DVD player was a few years ago when my internet died for several days and I had literally nothing better to do. Despite being mostly catered toward people who still use physical media, Redbox isn’t blind to the writing on the wall, which is why they began running their own free, ad-back live TV service earlier in the year. These days, however, people seem to prefer the ability to watch shows at their leisure rather than following a schedule, and so Redbox has adjusted their service accordingly.

Today, Redbox added a slew of on-demand movies and shows to their live TV service, all accessible through the Redbox app, which is available on mobile devices, Roku streaming players, and Vizio players. The offerings are only mildly eclectic (read: whatever Redbox could get their hands on the rights to), but there are some quality selections both old and new for movies and shows.

Some notable film choices include The New Mutants, Jojo Rabbit, and The Croods, as well as classics like Peter Jackson’s King Kong, Elf, and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. For television, there’s some modern shows like Bob’s Burgers, This Is Us, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and some older shows like Community and How I Met Your Mother.

Most of these offerings are available for a brief rental, though you can also purchase them digitally and watch them whenever you want. According to Redbox, new shows and movies will be added to the list every week.
