The Fort Meyers Mayor laughed off the President’s unexpected F-bomb.

Yesterday, US President Joe Biden visited the Florida city of Fort Meyers as part of his relief trips in the wake of Hurricane Ian. Following a press conference, Biden struck up a chat with the city’s mayor, Ray Murphy, and the two seemed to get along quite well. A surprising moment came during their chat where, unaware of the hot mic on his person, the President said “No one f—s with a Biden.”

While the comment was surprising, Murphy wasn’t particularly bothered by it, laughing it off. “It was not directed at anybody. It was just two guys talking,” Murphy said in an interview with NBC after video of the comment started circulating. “It didn’t faze me one bit. That’s just the way two guys talk to each other from our respective backgrounds.”

“It was one thing after another. We familiarized ourselves with each other. And to me, that was great, because hopefully they don’t forget about us,” Murphy said.

Murphy confessed that he wasn’t entirely sure what prompted Biden’s comment, but he said it sounded like something someone from his home neighborhood would say. “We’re both Irish Catholics. We’re both devout Catholics. But every once and a while a little salty language comes out,” Murphy said.

While the hot mic was an amusing moment of levity, Murphy stressed the importance of helping the people of Fort Meyers through their difficult time. “No sooner do I get elected and Covid broke [out]. And if Covid wasn’t enough, now a hurricane, to boot,” Murphy said. “As the Irish would say, if we didn’t have bad luck, we wouldn’t have any luck.”
