Ryan Reynolds Talks About Being Mistaken for Ben Affleck
A New York pizza joint regularly misidentifies Reynolds.
For the majority of the 21st century, many major male Hollywood stars have had certain… similarities between them. Average height, short haircut, fairly handsome features shaved or unshaved. If you’re not the kind of person who’s obsessively glued to a screen 24/7, you might not be able to pick them out from each other in a suspect lineup. A particular pizza place in New York, for instance, has difficulty discerning Ryan Reynolds from Ben Affleck.
Deadpool star and generally awesome dude Ryan Reynolds made an appearance on the “Dear Hank and John” podcast, and the conversation turned to instances where Reynolds had been mistaken for other actors. Turns out he’s got quite a few of them.
“There’s a pizza place in the East Village in New York that I’ve been going to for years,” Reynolds said. “They believe I’m Ben Affleck and I’ve never corrected them. I feel it would not go over well if I revealed.”
“I do everything normal like everybody else,” Reynolds added. “They just think I’m Ben Affleck and they’ll ask how J.Lo is and I’m like, ‘great, good.’ I get the pizza and off I go.”

In addition to Ben Affleck, Reynolds is also frequently mixed up with another famous Canadian person named Ryan, Ryan Gosling. “Years ago, I used to play fast and a little loose more on Twitter. These days, I’m a little bit more reserved,” he said. He then mentioned a joke he made online about how to tell the two of them apart: “I said, ‘Well the difference is easy to spot. Ryan Gosling has blond hair and Ryan Reynolds is a [expletive].”
When asked if he could handle Gosling’s starring role in The Notebook, Reynolds said “That would have failed horrendously. It would have been worse. I promise you. It would have been unwatchable.”
