Spartak Moscow Forward Quincy Promes Sentenced to 18 Months in Jail for Assault
Quincy Promes: From the Pitch to Prison
Spartak Moscow forward Quincy Promes has received an 18-month prison sentence for assaulting his cousin by stabbing him in the knee. The incident occurred during a family gathering in July 2020, and a Dutch court found Promes guilty of assault. However, his lawyer has stated that he intends to appeal the decision, as reported by Dutch broadcaster RTL. Notably, the footballer did not attend the court hearing since he resides in Russia.
Promes, who has previously played for clubs such as Sevilla and Ajax, currently resides in Russia, making it uncertain whether he will return to the Netherlands following the court’s ruling. The 31-year-old Dutch national stabbed his cousin during a family party in Abcoude last year, leading to the aggravated assault charge against him.
In addition to the assault conviction, Promes has been instructed by the court to compensate the victim with €7000 (£5970). This ruling came to light due to the interception of Promes’ phone during an investigation into drug trafficking. In fact, the footballer is facing another trial later this year for his alleged involvement in importing two shipments of cocaine, totalling 1362 kilograms, through the port of Antwerp.

Despite his successful stints with clubs like Sevilla and Ajax, Promes has tarnished his professional career with these legal issues. With 50 appearances for the Netherlands national team, the 31-year-old’s future in football remains uncertain as he grapples with his ongoing legal battles.
While Promes’ lawyer has stated that an appeal will be made, the verdict has undoubtedly put a dark cloud over the footballer’s reputation. The consequences of these criminal charges could have severe implications for his personal and professional life.
As the legal proceedings continue, the football community waits to see how Quincy Promes will navigate the challenges ahead. For now, his focus will likely shift from the football pitch to the courtroom as he fights to defend his name and determine his future career trajectory.
