Some love stories unfold on red carpets. Nicola Coughlan’s is unfolding on movie sets — and fans can’t get enough.
The Bridgerton star, 39, just dropped a low-key bombshell about her relationship with actor Jake Dunn, 26, revealing he didn’t just pop by while she filmed her upcoming fantasy film The Magic Faraway Tree in Malta — he ended up staying for the entire shoot.
Speaking with E! News, Coughlan explained that what started as a short visit turned into something much longer once Dunn found himself with unexpected time off from his own projects. Rather than heading home, he decided to extend the trip, and she wasn’t about to talk him out of it.
It turns out the Malta set was buzzing with more than just cameras and costumes. Coughlan shared that several of her castmates, including Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy, brought their own partners, friends, and even kids along for the ride, turning the production into something closer to a group getaway than a typical film shoot. Looking back, she described the whole stretch as one of the happiest chapters of the entire experience.
It’s a rare bit of openness from a couple who have otherwise played their romance close to the chest. Coughlan and Dunn’s relationship first came into public view in the summer of 2024, followed by a series of low-key sightings — a walk through London, a night out at a music festival — before they quietly made things Instagram official on Dunn’s birthday in February 2025. Their first official red carpet moment as a couple came two months later at a BAFTA nominees party, where they coordinated in matching dark outfits without saying a word about it.
That instinct to protect their privacy hasn’t wavered. Coughlan has previously opened up about how unsettling it felt to have private moments turned into public content without warning, and that discomfort appears to be exactly why this new glimpse into her relationship feels so different — offered on her own terms, in her own words, and clearly from a place of genuine happiness.
With The Magic Faraway Tree set to hit theaters this Friday, August 21, it seems Coughlan isn’t just bringing audiences a new movie — she’s bringing them a little proof that off-screen, her own story is going pretty well too.
