Brazilian superstar Neymar takes his talents to Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal

In a surprising turn of events, Brazilian forward Neymar is on the cusp of joining Saudi Pro League giants Al Hilal, following a momentous two-year deal that has been inked with his current club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), according to reports from Saudi state media.

While Qatar Sports Investments, the owners of the reigning Ligue 1 champions, PSG, have chosen not to comment at this juncture, esteemed French publication L’Equipe has indicated that this groundbreaking agreement could potentially see the 31-year-old football sensation rake in an impressive sum of 160 million euros ($175 million).

Sources familiar with the matter disclosed to Reuters news agency that Neymar underwent a comprehensive medical examination in the vibrant city of Paris on Monday. The imminent unveiling of Neymar before fans at Riyadh’s renowned King Fahd International Stadium is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, as he prepares to don the iconic number 10 jersey for Al Hilal, managed under the strategic guidance of Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus.

This transfer arrangement, estimated at approximately 90 million euros ($98 million), coupled with various performance-based incentives, is contingent upon the successful completion of the medical evaluation.

Neymar, whose meteoric rise led him from Spanish football titans Barcelona to PSG in 2017, achieved this monumental transition through a record-breaking transfer fee of 222 million euros ($242 million). His illustrious tenure in the French capital encompasses an impressive 118 goals across 173 appearances, marking a tenure punctuated by numerous accolades, including five Ligue 1 titles.

Nonetheless, Neymar’s tenure at the club has been persistently marred by injury, rendering him a peripheral figure in Coach Luis Enrique’s strategic lineup. This has been further compounded by the emergence of youthful talents such as 22-year-old Portuguese striker Goncalo Ramos, whose transformative influence has shaped the team’s profile.

While Neymar’s aspirations of a possible loan move back to Barcelona were thwarted due to the Catalan club’s fiscal challenges, Al Hilal capitalized on the opportunity to secure his services. The Saudi club has ambitiously fortified its ranks with notable international players, including Ruben Neves, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Kalidou Koulibaly, and fellow Brazilian compatriot Malcom.

This pivotal development comes on the heels of Al Hilal’s spirited attempt to secure the services of French prodigy Kylian Mbappe, who ultimately affirmed his commitment to PSG. The Paris-based club has proffered an intriguing contract to Mbappe, complete with a “guaranteed sale” stipulation, permitting the young talent to explore a potential move to Real Madrid the following summer.
