Matt Rife Defends Sydney Sweeney Against Online Trolls

Matt Rife isn’t staying quiet when it comes to Sydney Sweeney. The comedian, who knows what it’s like to face internet trolls, just spoke up for the Euphoria star after weeks of online drama.
Sweeney has been in the spotlight recently for all the wrong reasons. First, some people slammed her American Eagle jeans ad campaign. They bizarrely accused the ad campaign of hinting at white supremacy. Then came the bathwater soap story, where she was trolled a lot for selling bars made with her own bathwater. Social media went wild. However, Rife made it clear that he’s on Sweeney’s side.
“I keep seeing people mad at Sydney Sweeney for noooothing,” Rife wrote on X. “She’s learning that the internet is full of absolute garbage losers who will twist anything you say into a c–ty misinterpretation. People are awful.”
Rife’s post also shared Sweeney’s own comments about the backlash. In an interview, she admitted most of the negative chatter about the bathwater soap actually came from women.
She said, “It was mainly the girls making comments, which I thought was really interesting.” She also said that those same people loved the idea of Jacob Elordi’s bathwater (a playful reference to the viral Saltburn bathtub scene).
Of course, Rife has dealt a lot with online hate himself. After blowing up on TikTok, he was also trolled heavily over a controversial domestic violence joke in his Netflix special ‘Natural Selection.’ That backlash was actually huge. However, Rife poked fun at the whole thing with a fake apology. And later, he joked about the “canceled” talk during his sold-out Hollywood Bowl show.
Well, Rife isn’t the only one who has been defending Sydney Sweeney. Dr. Phil slammed the outrage over her jeans ad. He called it “an absolute insult” to compare it to real tragedies. Even President Donald Trump threw in his support. He praised the ad when he came to know that Sweeney is a registered Republican.
In all this prevailing drama, Sweeney herself has kept pretty quiet. However, her defenders are proving that Sydney Sweeney is not fighting the internet storm alone.
