Kanye West Joins Chicago Protest
The prolific rapper was spotted at a protest after making a large donation.
In the wake of the George Floyd protests, multiple celebrities from all facets of entertainment have been taking stands against racial discrimination and police brutality, with several opting to join in the protests themselves. Recently, hip-hop artist Kanye West voiced his support for the movement with an impressive three-step contribution.
First, West arranged for a 529 college tuition plan Gianna Floyd, George Floyd’s 6-year-old daughter. This plan will completely cover tuition to a college of Gianna’s choice. Secondly, West made a contribution of $2 million total to the families of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor, all victims of police brutality, to aid with life and legal expenses. West has also made contributions to various black-owned businesses, both in his home state of Illinois and around the world.

Third, and most recently, West was spotted at a large protest in Chicago, Illinois on Thursday, June 4. He was wearing a black hoodie and mask, which may imply he was attempting to be incognito, but in video footage shared on Twitter, he was seen offering comfort and support to various protesters.
While many have praised West for his donations and contributions to the effort, some have criticized him due to his past support of President Donald Trump, whose views protesters believe are antithetical to their beliefs and desires. At the moment, neither West nor his representatives have commented on this discrepancy, nor on his presence at the Chicago protest.
