John Mulaney Opens Up About Rehab, Relationship with Olivia Munn
John Mulaney has had an eventful year, to say the least.
Speaking as a big fan of comedian John Mulaney, I was saddened when I heard about his relapse into drug-use late last year, and really happy for him when he went to rehab to get the help he needed. According to Mulaney himself, who appeared last night on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the eponymous host of which is a close friend of his, the intervention that led to his entering rehab was quite an event.
“When I opened the door, I knew right away there was an intervention, which, that’s how bad of a drug problem I had, that when I opened the door and saw people and thought, ‘This is probably an intervention,'” Mulaney told the Meyers.
“That night, I was not great,” Mulaney said. “And yet, as mad as I was, I looked around at the group and I was like, ‘This is a good group.’ It was like a ‘We Are the World’ of alternative comedians over the age of 40. And I was I mean like so many funny people, and then no one did bits the entire time.”
“I remember walking in and going, ‘Okay. Okay. I needed to be the smartest person in the room, even at the intervention.’ So I remember saying to all of you, ‘Before you all read your letter. I have a drug problem. And I need to help,’ ” he said. “Just to scoop, scoop you.”

Following Mulaney’s departure from rehab in February, he connected with Olivia Munn, whom he first met back in 2013. The two of them quietly began a relationship, which became a hot topic for tabloids over the last few months, but on Late Night, he spilled the beans: he and Munn are having a child together.
“You guys saved me from drugs and Olivia and this baby have helped save me from myself and this early journey out of recovery. I don’t have a joke for that. I’m really grateful to you, buddy.”
