Gwyneth Paltrow’s Skiing Mishap: A Lawsuit That’s All Downhill from Here

Gwyneth Paltrow, the Oscar-winning actress and founder of the lifestyle brand Goop, is facing a lawsuit over a skiing accident that occurred in 2016. The lawsuit was filed by Terry Sanderson, a Utah man who claims that Paltrow was skiing recklessly and caused him to suffer serious injuries.

Paltrow and her family were skiing at Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah when the event happened, papers said. Sanderson claims that Paltrow was skiing erratically and slammed into him from behind, forcing him to lose consciousness and sustain four fractured ribs.

Sanderson states that Paltrow departed the site of the collision without rendering assistance or requesting for it to be rendered. He also claims that Paltrow’s ski instructor, who was there at the crash, unjustly blamed him for the incident.

The lawsuit, filed in January 2019, seeks $3.1 million in damages from Paltrow and the ski instructor. It claims that Paltrow was skiing too fast for the conditions and failed to maintain a proper lookout and that the ski instructor was negligent in his duty to prevent the accident from occurring.

Paltrow and her legal team have denied the allegations, arguing that she was skiing at a reasonable speed and did not cause the collision. In a court filing, Paltrow’s attorney called Sanderson’s claims, “baseless and meritless” and accused him of trying to exploit Paltrow’s celebrity status for financial gain.

The case has been ongoing for several years, with both sides presenting evidence and testimony in court. In May 2021, a judge ruled that Paltrow could be held liable for Sanderson’s injuries and allowed the case to be trialed.
