Discussions with President Herzog highlight the role of tackling antisemitism on social media.

In a meeting with entrepreneur Elon Musk, Israeli President Isaac Herzog acknowledged the significant role Musk could play in preventing antisemitism, expressing concerns about the prevalence of this age-old disease on social media platforms, including Musk’s X.

During Musk’s visit to a kibbutz targeted by Hamas, President Herzog highlighted the responsibility of leaders in addressing antisemitism within the digital realm. The discussions delved into the challenges posed by hate speech on social media, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to counteract its influence.

Musk and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu toured Kfar Aza, witnessing the aftermath of recent Hamas attacks. In a live-streamed conversation on X, both leaders agreed on the necessity of addressing the security threat posed by Hamas for peace in the region.

The visit also marked an agreement regarding Musk’s satellite internet service, Starlink. Following disruptions in Gaza’s internet connectivity due to heightened military operations, an understanding was reached that Starlink would be utilized in Israel and Gaza only with the approval of the Israeli government, ensuring responsible use.

Amidst controversies surrounding X, including major advertisers pausing their campaigns due to concerns raised by Media Matters for America, Musk has been actively challenging the allegations. X faced scrutiny for ads appearing alongside pro-Nazi posts, leading to a “thermonuclear lawsuit” initiated by Musk against the organization.

Musk’s response to a post on X, perceived by some as endorsing an antisemitic conspiracy theory, also drew criticism. The entrepreneur clarified that his comments were not directed at all Jewish people but rather specific groups critical of the platform.
