Digital releases will follow a couple of months later.

Even if you don’t pay any attention to the anime and manga scene, there’s a distinct chance you’ve at least heard of Kimetsu no Yaiba, also known as Demon Slayer, the smash hit manga serialization-turned anime whose singular sales outperformed the entire US comic book industry. This comic did so well for itself that its author, Koyoharu Gotouge, made the Time 100 Next list recognizing up and coming businessmen and women. There’s already a second season of the anime on the way, but before westerners can watch it, we need to see the movie.

Demon Slayer – Kimetsu No Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train is a theatrical release covering the eponymous Mugen Train arc of the manga. When this movie first released in Japan in October of last year, it dominated the box office, grossing over $100 million in just ten days. Western audiences have been waiting ages to see this movie, but the COVID-19 pandemic has understandably made theatrical releases a bit of an iffy subject. Finally, though, distributors Aniplex and Funimation have announced when we’ll be able to watch the movie.

Mugen Train will be coming to western theaters, both with English subtitles and English dubbing, on April 23. The R-rated film will be available in standard definition screenings, as well as IMAX and 4DX where available. Advance tickets will go on sale on Funimation’s website starting April 9. For those who understandably don’t want to go near a movie theater just yet, the film will be available for digital streaming starting June 22, pre-orders for which begin on April 26. You can watch the movie, again with subs or dubs, through Apple TV, the Microsoft Store, Vudu, Google Play, the PlayStation Store and Amazon, though no word yet on what they’re planning on charging for it.
