The cause of the explosion has not been determined as of writing.

Yesterday afternoon, a large explosion suddenly rocked a small suburban neighborhood in Dallas, Texas. The explosion completely destroyed one house and damaged two others in the process. Six people were injured in this incident, five of whom were in one of the damaged homes, while the remaining one was rescued from the rubble of the destroyed house. Thankfully, no fatalities have been caused.

“All of the sudden I heard what I thought was my sliding glass door breaking,” a nearby neighbor told local station KTVT. “And I just noticed two picture frames on the wall fall down and the sound and that didn’t match up. When my husband pulled into our garage, the roof in our garage had caved in.”

Plano Fire Rescue responded after the explosion occurred, and were joined at the scene of the incident by local police, FBI members, representatives of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and representatives of energy and gas provider Atmos Energy Corporation. To prevent any further explosions, Atmos temporarily disabled power and gas in the neighborhood until around 9:30 PM that night.

Law enforcement officers utilized an explosive detection dog to determine any potential causes of the incident. The dog was not able to uncover any kind of obvious explosive devices or hazardous materials, and as such, the police have determined that the explosion was likely an accident rather than a deliberate criminal act. That said, a precise cause has not yet been determined as of writing; Plano Fire Rescue is working with the Atmos representatives to search clues of other potential causes.

“We are saddened by today’s tragedy of a house explosion in our City. Several of our residents were injured,” Plano Mayor John Muns said in a statement reported by KXAS-TV. “We are keeping them and their families close to our hearts and hoping for a swift and full recovery.
