Bruce Arians Discusses Passing HC Job to Todd Bowles

Arians is happy to leave the Bucs to Bowles.

This week, Bruce Arians, head coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, announced that he would be retiring from the position and passing it on to defensive coordinator Todd Bowles. Arians, meanwhile, will be taking a more hands-off approach in the Bucs’ front office.

Rumors have circulated that this decision to hand off the head coach role are due to some friction between Arians and star quarterback Tom Brady, though Arians has dismissed these rumors as false.

“All the players, there are a few in here, everyone of them has gotten cussed out. Including him,” Arians said. “That’s just part of me. That’s nothing new. We have a great relationship. People got to write s—. It couldn’t be further from the truth.”

Others have asked Arians why he’s handing off the position before winning another Super Bowl. “A number of people have already asked, ‘Why are you stepping away from a chance to go to the Hall of Fame and win another Super Bowl?’ Because I don’t give a s— about the Hall of Fame,” Arians said. “Succession is way important to me. This has been my dream for a long time. Guys that know me, they knew I wanted one of my guys to take over.”
