Former defender seeks millions in wages after clearing charges, alleging “unauthorized deductions” during his time with Premier League champions.

Former Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy is set to take legal action against the Premier League champions, initiating a lawsuit to reclaim millions of pounds in unpaid wages. Mendy alleges “unauthorized deductions from wages” and will present his case before an employment tribunal.

The French left-back, cleared of rape and sexual assault charges earlier this year, claims that Manchester City failed to pay him any wages from September 2021, when he was initially charged and held in custody, until the expiration of his contract in June 2023. Mendy, a three-time Premier League champion with City, left the club when his contract concluded in June.

Nick De Marco KC is representing Benjamin Mendy in this multi-million-pound claim for unpaid wages. A statement on behalf of Mendy conveyed, “Manchester City FC failed to pay Mr. Mendy any wages at all from September 2021, following Mr. Mendy being charged with various offenses, all of which he was subsequently acquitted of, until the end of his contract in June 2023. The claim will come before an employment tribunal.”

In January, Mendy was cleared of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, but a retrial was needed for two charges where the jury couldn’t reach verdicts. In July, he was found not guilty on those two charges.

Mendy, who was reportedly earning around £100,000 per week with City, seeks the return of unpaid wages up to the conclusion of his contract with the treble-winning team. The defender, now with French club Lorient, last played for Manchester City in 2021.
