The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has given the green light to a £61.8 million redevelopment project for two stands at Lord’s Cricket Ground, often hailed as the ‘Home of Cricket.’

The approved plans, endorsed by MCC members last week, aim to enhance the iconic venue by increasing seating capacity by 1,100 seats. This ambitious endeavor involves the demolition and reconstruction of the Allen Stand, with an additional tier to be added, alongside the incorporation of a fourth level to the Tavern Stand.

Scheduled to commence at the conclusion of the current season in September, construction is slated for completion by 2027. The comprehensive redevelopment promises not only an expanded capacity but also upgraded facilities encompassing catering, hospitality, and accessibility, as stated by the MCC.

This development follows the successful £53 million renovation of the Compton and Edrich stands in 2021, which augmented the ground’s capacity to accommodate 31,000 spectators.

Amidst these transformative plans, Middlesex County Cricket Club, a key tenant at Lord’s owned by the MCC, revealed earlier this year its contemplation of relocating from the historic venue.

The forthcoming redevelopment underscores the ongoing commitment to modernizing and elevating the esteemed Lord’s Cricket Ground, ensuring its continued prominence in the world of cricket.
