Oh boy! Thursday Night Football’s tomorrow night! It’s gonna be the Green Bay Packers versus the San Francisco 49ers! Cheese hats versus mining helmets! It’s sure to be a great time for everyone and- oh, never mind, someone’s got COVID. Welp, that’ll show me for being excited.

Right before their next big game with the Packers, the 49ers have been forced to temporarily shutter their training facility due to a confirmed case of COVID-19 among the players. Our lucky infectee this time around is wide receiver Kendrick Bourne. The team is hoping they can get the usual bout of safety testing and contact tracing done in time to ensure that everyone else is okay, or at least okay enough, to still play the Packers on Thursday.

“The San Francisco 49ers were informed today that a player has tested positive for COVID-19 and the individual immediately went into self-quarantine,” the 49ers said in a public statement. “Our organization has entered the NFL’s intensive protocol and we are working with the league on contact tracing to identify high risk individuals. All team functions will be conducted virtually today.

“The health and safety of our players, staff and community are the organization’s highest priority. We will continue to work closely with the NFL and medical professionals and will follow their direction.”

If the game still goes on as planned, the 49ers may be at a bit of a disadvantage in the wide receiver department, as due to some unrelated injuries, their usual candidates for wide receiver replacements, Deebo Samuel and Dante Pettis, are off the table. However, the Packers’ running back, AJ Dillon, is currently also down for the count with COVID, as he tested positive on Monday, so it might not be such a lopsided game after all.
