On the 10th anniversary of her father Robin Williams’ death, Zelda Williams has taken to social media to address and refute a false rumor circulating online. The actress and director, who has been vocal about preserving her father’s legacy, responded to a misleading post claiming that the beloved actor owned a pet monkey.

The inaccurate post, shared on X, included a photo of Robin Williams with a monkey on his shoulder and falsely suggested that the monkey was his pet. Zelda Williams quickly corrected the misinformation, clarifying that her father did not own a pet monkey. The monkey in the photo is Crystal, the famous primate from the Night at the Museum films, who now resides at an exotic animal rescue.

In her social media post, Zelda Williams emphasized, “Dad didn’t own a pet monkey, NO ONE should. Support your local exotic animal rescues instead.” She also clarified that the image, which was pulled from Robin Williams’ Instagram account, was not his final photo as suggested. “It’s a real picture, it’s just not the last picture,” she added.

Robin Williams, known for his iconic roles in films such as Dead Poets Society and Jumanji, passed away on August 11, 2014. Following his death, it was revealed that he had been suffering from Lewy body dementia, a neurodegenerative disorder.

In a follow-up post, Zelda Williams advised the public to be cautious of misleading posts and encouraged people to focus on positive actions. “Since more completely false or badly researched posts are likely to go viral on Dad’s death anniversary, maybe just assume they’re all BS. Ignore the creepy robots trying to farm your clicks & do something nice for yourself instead,” she wrote.

Robin Williams’ legacy continues through his family’s advocacy for mental health awareness. His children, Zelda and Zak, have remained active in promoting mental health and supporting causes related to their father’s memory.
