The Yankees successfully forced the series into a fifth game.

The New York Yankees have been on absolute fire this season, clocking in nearly constant wins. However, there have been a few close calls jeopardizing their winning streak, with the latest coming in over the weekend against the Cleveland Guardians. The Yankees were 1-2 in their current series against the Guardians, and a loss would cost them the series. However, the Yankees managed to pull off a close 4-2 win, forcing the series into a tiebreaker game.

Both team and staff have attributed this lifesaver victory to the Yankees’ ace, starting pitcher Gerrit Cole. “He just kept making pitches all night long,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “I thought he was just really in command of the moment, and it was obviously a huge start for us and for him. And to get us that deep in the game set us up real nice.”

Cole had several close calls throughout the night, but each time, he managed to fire off a strikeout to keep the odds in the Yankees’ favor. “For most of the night, in order to pitch around somebody, and overall, just stuff was pretty good,” Cole said. “But we just executed a lot of good pitches and mixed well. Well enough to get away with a couple of mistakes.”

In addition to saving the series, Cole’s tight performance helped keep the rest of the team in good shape and good spirits for what’s coming next.

“It lined up pretty well for us tonight,” Boone said. “You start looking back, it is like, man, every little out that sets up somebody in a little bit better position moving forward is always big.”
