‘Wonder Woman 1984’ Pushed to December
Wonder Woman will miss Halloween, but she’ll be home in time for Christmas.
It’s not a fun time to be in the movie biz. Even as theaters gradually begin reopening, you can’t force unwilling butts into seats. Even if you could, there simply aren’t a lot of movies ready to go right now, as many have been hit with production delays due to the pandemic. The one thing that could probably get a lot of people to go to the movies right now is another big superhero action blockbuster. Good news is one’s coming up: Wonder Woman 1984. Bad news is it’s been delayed.
The new iteration of the famous DC superheroine played by Gal Gadot was planned to release on October 2. Unfortunately, Warner Bros. made the official call today to postpone the film’s release, though thankfully, it’s not going too far. Instead of October, Wonder Woman 1984 will hit theaters on December 25, Christmas day. Warner Bros. hasn’t given a concrete reason for the film’s delay, though some have theorized that they’re still waiting for ticket sales on the newly released Tenet to bottom out before they start packing the theaters again.
Toby Emmerich, chairman of the WB Motion Picture Group, commented on the film, as well as its director, Patty Jenkins. “Patty is an exceptional filmmaker and with Wonder Woman 1984 she has delivered an incredibly dynamic film that moviegoers of all ages around the world will absolutely love,” Emmerich said. “We’re very proud of the film and look forward to bringing it to audiences for the holidays.”
Jenkins followed up on Emmerich’s comments, adding, “First and foremost let me say how much Gal and I love all our devoted Wonder Woman fans around the world, and your excitement for ‘WW84’ couldn’t make us happier or more eager for you to see the movie. Because I know how important it is to bring this movie to you on a big screen when all of us can share the experience together, I’m hopeful you won’t mind waiting just a little bit longer. With the new date on Christmas Day, we can’t wait to spend the holidays with you!”
