Green was ejected for a flagrant foul 2.

Last night, the Golden State Warriors took on the Memphis Grizzlies on the latter’s home turf. It was an absolute nail-bitter of a game, with the Warriors just barely coming out on top at the end with a 117-116 score, clenching a Game 1 win. However, this victory was definitely harder-earned than they would’ve liked due to the ejection of their power forward Draymond Green.

With 1:18 left in the second quarter, Green attempted to intercept Grizzlies power forward Brandon Clarke in the middle of a dunk. Green made contact with Clarke’s head and got snagged on his jersey on the way down, a contact that was ruled as a flagrant foul 2. This resulted in Green’s ejection for the remaining duration of the game, not to mention some major booing from the Memphis crowd.

“He’s been known for flagrant fouls in his career,” Clarke said of Green after the game. “I’ve watched him on TV my whole life, it feels like. I wasn’t really shocked. I don’t really like to flop or nothing, but he did hit me pretty hard twice when I saw it again. … It is not shocking that he did that. Something he has done in the past.”

Green’s teammates did not hold the foul against him, with many high-fiving and hugging him on their way to the locker room after the game. “This is a huge game to win, especially with [Green] going out early,” said shooting guard Jordan Poole. “You really have to find that grit and grind and buckle down and lock in offensively and defensively. He is such a big part of our team. … We were able to fill in for the energy he has.”

Green is looking to have the flagrant foul 2 rescinded.
