Urban Meyer Fired as Jaguars Coach
Meyer is out after less than a year.
It’s been less than a year since Urban Meyer was hired on as the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, and in that brief time, he hasn’t made the best go at things. One particular controversy that’s been following him is his alleged treatment of former Jaguars player Josh Lambo, who accused Meyer of kicking him during practice. “Kicking” as in literal kicking with his foot, not kicking him out of practice.
“Josh’s characterization of me and this incident is completely inaccurate, and there are eyewitnesses to refute his account,” Meyer told the Tampa Bay Times of Lambo’s accusation. “(General manager) Trent (Baalke) and I met with him on multiple occasions to encourage his performance, and this was never brought up. I was fully supportive of Josh during his time with the team and wish him nothing but the best.”
This incident, along with several others, irreparably damaged Meyer’s relationship with the team, and apparently, it’s officially gotten too bad. Jaguars team owner Shad Khan announced today that Meyer had been let go from his position as head coach.

“After deliberation over many weeks and a thorough analysis of the entirety of Urban’s tenure with our team, I am bitterly disappointed to arrive at the conclusion that an immediate change is imperative for everyone.” Khan said in a statement. “I informed Urban of the change this evening. As I stated in October, regaining our trust and respect was essential. Regrettably, it did not happen.”
For the remainder of the current NFL season, offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell will be serving as the Jaguars’ interim coach.
