Wayne D. Lewis Jr., the president of Houghton University in New York, has spoken out against what he calls the “fringe agenda” of trans inclusion in women’s sports. His statement comes in response to a male student-athlete winning a women’s track-and-field event at a recent championship, where a female Houghton freshman placed fifth.

Expressing his concern for female athletes at his university and beyond, President Lewis emphasized the unfairness of allowing transgender individuals to compete in women’s divisions, citing instances where female athletes are at a competitive disadvantage and may lose hard-earned opportunities.

In particular, Lewis criticized the silence of authority figures and leaders who have failed to address the issue, allowing men to encroach into female divisions and potentially take away titles, trophies, and scholarships from female athletes. He called this silence complicit with an agenda that threatens to undermine the progress and protections established for girls and women in sports.

Riley Gaines, a former University of Kentucky swimmer and host of OutKick’s “Gaines for Girls” podcast commended President Lewis for his outspoken support of female athletes, highlighting the importance of acknowledging the biological differences between men and women in sports.

Lewis’s stance reflects a growing debate surrounding transgender inclusion in sports and raises questions about the balance between inclusivity and fairness in athletic competition.
