If Nevada doesn’t reopen soon, the UFC is going to pack up and leave.

Nevada is currently in the midst of a ban on all combat sports in order to discourage close physical contact during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is problem for the UFC, which has a big match-up on the docket for May 30 at the Apex Facility. If Nevada doesn’t lift their ban by the end of the month, the UFC will be up the creek without an event. Luckily for them, another state has offered a convenient out.

Last Tuesday, Gov. Doug Ducey of Arizona announced that the state would be extending an open invitation to all sport leagues to play there while the pandemic is going on. The only requirement is that these sports follow the CDC’s guidelines on public health, which means no fans at the event.

“We have had discussions with leaders with some of these leagues, and they all know they are welcome to operate, play and perform in the state of Arizona,” Ducey said.

When asked about Arizona’s proposal on Saturday during a post-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White said that if Nevada doesn’t lift their ban in time, “That’s where I’ll go. That’s 100% where I’ll go.”

No formal decisions on the matter have been made as of yet, and there’s still twelve days until the event is supposed to run. If Nevada doesn’t reopen in time, White will pack up the entire event and ship it over to Arizona.
