A small community in Colombia is mourning the heartbreaking loss of four female soccer players who were tragically struck by lightning during a match in the village of El Real, Cajibío, on February 9, 2025. A Routine Match Turns into a Nightmare

The victims—Jeidy Daneisy Morales, Daniela Yinet Mosquera, Luz Eneida Lame, and Etelvina Mosquera—were participating in a local soccer tournament when a storm suddenly developed. In an effort to find shelter, the players took cover under a tree near the field. Unfortunately, lightning struck the very tree they stood under, resulting in their tragic deaths.

Eyewitnesses recall that although the sky was cloudy, there was no heavy rain at the time. A local official, Lesly Valencia, confirmed that the lightning bolt struck the tree, which ultimately caused the fatal injuries.

In addition to the four women who lost their lives, a man named Jhorman Mosquera, who was also present, was injured and later passed away in the hospital. Two other women suffered severe burns and were rushed to medical facilities for urgent treatment.
