‘The Parent Trap’ Cast Reunite for Film’s Anniversary
The Lindsay Lohan one, not the Hayley Mills one.
Ah, The Parent Trap, the classic Disney film about two identical twins, separated at birth, baiting their divorced parents into getting together again. It was the film debut of a young Lindsay Lohan, playing both of the young leads with a bit of special effects magic (which looks pretty obvious by today’s standards, but was a neat trick in the 90s), and the beginning of a long and illustrious career featuring classics like Freaky Friday and Mean Girls. Of course, it wasn’t just Lindsay Lohan; the cast also featured several standouts like Dennis Quaid and the late Natasha Richardson. It’s been about 22 years since The Parent Trap came out, and to celebrate, the cast and crew reunited for a spirited discussion (remotely, of course).
Headed by presenter Katie Couric, several prominent members of cast and writing staff got together on Couric’s Instagram for a 15-minute reminiscence on the making of the film. To name some highlights, director-writer Nancy Meyers and writer-producer Charles Shyer spoke briefly about the notion of remaking a film from 1961, Elaine Hendrix, Lisa Ann Walter and Simon Kunz thought back to their experiences on set as part of the cast, and they even got Lohan and Quaid to join in.
The discussion also took a moment to advocate for World Central Kitchen, a charity initiative created by chef José Andrés that helps to develop food relief programs for countries devastated by natural disasters.
