The events of the second game will be a much grander production.

This past weekend saw the season finale of HBO Max’s The Last of Us, with the critically-acclaimed adaptation of the video game of the same name not only doubling its concurrent viewers from its already-impressive first episode’s record, but also providing some healthy competition to the simultaneously-airing Oscars. Needless to say, The Last of Us was a smash hit, and the showrunners are already working on bringing us more.

The early stages of production are already underway on a second season for the show, which is set to cover the events of the second video game, The Last of Us Part II, which released in 2020. Mazin also spoke about the presence of Infected monsters in the series. “Within the episodes that we were concentrating on, I think ultimately we generally stressed the power of relationships and trying to find significance within moments of action,” Mazin said at a press conference. “And so, there may be less action than some people wanted because we couldn’t necessarily find significance for quite a bit of it, or a concern that it would be repetitive. Although a lot of people do like to watch gameplay, it needs to be, I think, a little bit more focused and purposeful when we’re putting it on TV.”
