Tensions flared as British heavyweight Daniel Dubois showed his frustration, slamming the table and refusing to engage with rival Anthony Joshua during an intense pre-fight press conference ahead of their highly anticipated clash at Wembley Stadium. The encounter, which will see the two heavyweights battle in front of a record post-war British crowd of 96,000, is set to take place this Saturday.

Dubois, fresh off his elevation to world champion status after Oleksandr Usyk vacated the IBF title, made it clear that he’s focused solely on the fight. As questions swirled around past sparring sessions and pre-fight hype, the 27-year-old maintained a no-nonsense approach, eager to get into the ring and prove himself.

“I need to retain this world title,” Dubois stated firmly. “It’s a great thing to have, but I need to legitimise myself by winning this fight.” With a tone of finality, he added, “No more words – just fighting, punches. I’m ready to fight and destroy. Destroy.”

The press conference, held in London, saw a notable contrast between the two fighters. While Dubois appeared impatient, eager for the proceedings to end, the more conversational Anthony Joshua remained composed, respectful, and focused. The 34-year-old former world champion did not take the bait, even when talk turned to a past sparring session in which Dubois allegedly rocked him.

Joshua dismissed the incident, calmly stating, “It was sparring. Now we’re fighting, this is different.”

As the conversation persisted, Dubois became visibly agitated, urging the media to “move on” before banging the table in frustration, signaling his desire to cut the verbal exchanges short and get straight to the action.

With both fighters aiming to secure their legacy and stake their claim in the heavyweight division, the atmosphere promises to reach a fever pitch at Wembley on Saturday.
