TikTok creators and SVU fans are coming together to celebrate the viral dance trend
When Mariska Hargitay and Kelli Giddish, the two popular stars of ‘Law & Order: SVU’, joined the viral TikTok trend by dancing to the iconic SVU theme song, fans across social media went wild. However, the one person who was the most excited was the choreographer behind the dance himself, Stephon Vann.
Known as @jonas_sjv on TikTok, Stephon Vann says he came up with the idea of dancing on a whim when he was waiting at a bus stop. I wanted to do something that nobody would really expect me to do,” he told PEOPLE. “The Law & Order: SVU theme song came to mind off the strength of being random. I’ve always liked that theme song. Everybody knows it, but nobody has really danced to it.”

The video that started as merely a fun freestyle moment quickly became a viral movement. When his original solo dance clip turned viral, Vann re-recorded the same dance steps with a group of friends in Cleveland. That new video also blew up. It gained millions of views, and the people spread it across Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and beyond.

He said, “People are telling me it’s on Twitter. Then it was Instagram. Then, once NBC did the video, it blew up so much more from there.”
The true surprise came when NBC and the official Law & Order: SVU social media pages posted their own version featuring Hargitay and Giddish doing Vann’s viral moves. “They invited me to a collaboration and I just jumped to the moon. I’m like, ‘Ain’t no way the people from Law & Order are doing this dance!'” he laughed.

For Stephon Vann, the support means everything. He said, “I feel blessed and grateful that I can just show the world me. This is just a little funny dance that I made up, and people are loving the fact that it’s random and kind of unique in a way. But I’ll take the love, and hopefully I can keep dancing and show people this side of my personality.”
He hopes one day to dance alongside the SVU stars in person. “Who knows?” he laughed. “But for now, I’m just happy the world is dancing with me.”
