Stream These Five Game Shows for a Fun Afternoon

Years may go by, but watching people embarrass themselves on camera will never stop being entertaining.

One of my fondest adolescent memories was the time both my mom and I were home sick with colds, so we spent the entire day on the couch watching Ninja Warrior. Game shows have an almost otherworldly magic to them that brings families closer together. Maybe it’s fun watching people surmount impossible odds to win oodles of cash. Maybe it’s fun to watch people slip up and fall flat on their face in front of a studio audience. Whatever the reason, there are worse ways to spend an afternoon than watching some game shows. If you’ve got streaming services, there are some fun newer shows you can watch right now!

The Wall

Nothing was more satisfying than seeing someone win it big at Plinko on The Price is Right. So with that in mind, let’s turn Plinko into its own super-sized game show! Contestants answer quiz questions to earn balls, which are then dropped from the top of a massive wall with prize values on the bottom. It’s all down to luck, and prizes can jump to $1,000 down to zero, and back up to a million in the blink of an eye.

Floor is Lava

I’m sure we’ve all played “the floor is lava” on rainy days before, jumping from couch to couch and occasionally knocking a lamp over. But what if you took that concept and scaled it up to its logical extreme? Well, you’d have Netflix’s newest game show, Floor is Lava. Teams compete to complete an athletic obstacle course of jumping, climbing and dodging, with the one rule being don’t touch the floor, because it is quite literally lava (or at least a special effects-created facsimile).

Awake: The Million Dollar Game

Sleep deprivation is surprisingly entertaining, at least when you have nowhere to be the next day. Your mental faculties slow, everything becomes funnier, and you have the motor skills of a dog after a vet visit. It stands to reason that getting sleep-deprived people to perform various brain-heavy tasks would produce some pretty hilarious results, which is the core philosophy of Awake: The Million Dollar Game. Can contestants deprived of sleep for 24 hours straight pull themselves together to win the grand prize?

Holey Moley

Miniature golf is pretty fun to play, but it’s not especially interesting to watch. It’s just a person and a putter hitting a ball that occasionally bounces off a windmill blade. To be really entertaining, mini-golf needs a little razz-matazz. Holey Moley pours a whole bucket of razz-matazz on the game, putting putters on super-sized courses that require Wipeout-style obstacle navigation between each hole.

LEGO Masters

Every kid has fancied themselves a master LEGO builder at least once in their lives. The only limit to LEGO is your imagination, after all (and that one missing brick currently embedded in your dad’s foot). If you want to see a true spectacle of creativity, watch these LEGO enthusiasts let their imaginations run wild as they compete to create the greatest LEGO displays the world has seen.
