‘Space Jam’ to Receive Free Tie-In Game
It’s not a basketball game, if you were wondering.
Back in December, Xbox ran a contest where they requested submissions from fans on how to make the best possible tie-in game for the upcoming Space Jam: A New Legacy. They got quite a few ideas, ranging from fighting games to strategy games to plain old basketball games. In the end, though, they decided to settle on an old-school idea for an old-school film franchise.
Next month, Xbox will be releasing Space Jam: A New Legacy The Game, an arcade-style sidescrolling beat ’em up game. Players can take control of LeBron James, Bugs Bunny, or Lola Bunny, and take on waves of monstrous and mechanical foes toward the ultimate goal of defeating the Tune Squad’s arch-nemeses, the Goon Squad. The game also has three-player co-op functionality (as any good sidescrolling beat ’em up should), so three players can control James, Bugs, and Lola at the same time for some local multiplayer action.
While Xbox is publishing Space Jam: A New Legacy The Game, the development was handled by Digital Eclipse, a developer with a knack for old-school gaming sensibilities, having previously cut their teeth on The Disney Afternoon Collection and the Blizzard Arcade Collection.
Designed by fans, built for fans. Talk about full circle, eh doc?

Space Jam: A New Legacy The Game will release as a timed exclusive for Xbox Games Pass Ultimate on July 1. On July 15, it’ll become free-to-play on the Microsoft Store on July 15, coinciding the release of Space Jam: A New Legacy in theaters and on HBO Max on July 16. Alongside the game, Microsoft will be releasing a set of three Space Jam-themed Xbox controllers, though they haven’t yet specified where one could purchase these controllers or how much they’ll cost.
