Ohtani has become the Angels’ unstoppable secret weapon.

Since joining the Los Angeles Angels, Shohei Ohtani has become an absolute fan favorite, and it’s easy to see why. As their starting pitcher, he’s an absolute dynamo on the mound, throwing on wildly differing pitch types and super-high speeds. Not only is he a fantastic player, he’s shaping up to be one of the best in the Angels’ history.

As of last night’s bout against the Miami Marlins (which the Angels won 5-2), Ohtani has continued his ongoing streak of strikeouts to four consecutive games. For the past four games, Ohtani hasn’t allowed a single earned run to slip past him when he’s on the mound. That’s the third-longest streak by an Angels starter in the last 50 years, making Ohtani only the sixth pitcher to ever cross that threshold.

“I didn’t change much, the most important thing is I made my pitches when I needed to,” Ohtani told reporters after the game, translated from Japanese. “I think it’s huge when we’re winning and I’m pitching because I’m part of the ball club.”

“I’m able to go without any worries on my body, fully healthy,” Ohtani said. “It’s a huge part why I’m pitching well.”

Ohtani’s streak hasn’t gone unnoticed by the rest of the league, and especially not by the rest of his team. Angels catcher Max Stassi had some extra praise to offer the starter after the game.

“He’s one of the better arms in baseball, and then you’re going to see him at the plate same day, too,” Stassi said about Ohtani. “He’s a superstar pitcher and he’s a superstar hitter.”
