Russian F1 Grand Prix Cancelled
Formula One wants nothing to do with Russia after their invasion.
Previously, Russia had a Formula One Grand Prix scheduled to run this September at Sochi’s Olympic Park. However, as Russia launched a military invasion of Ukraine earlier this week, no international committees want anything to do with them, least of all Formula One. This is why F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, with the consent of the ten F1 team owners, announced today that the Russian F1 Grand Prix has officially been canceled.
“We are watching the developments in Ukraine with sadness and shock and hope for a swift and peaceful resolution to the present situation. On Thursday evening Formula 1, the FIA, and the teams discussed the position of our sport, and the conclusion is, including the view of all relevant stakeholders, that it is impossible to hold the Russian Grand Prix in the current circumstances.”

Rosgonki, the company that serves as a promotor for the Russian Grand Prix, attempted to downplay the cancelation and dissuade customers from refunding their tickets, saying that “The purchased tickets are not canceled,” and that “There is no need to get refunds for them now because it is still possible that the round will take place and will be held as previously scheduled.”
F1 sources have clarified to the press that the Russian Grand Prix has been conclusively canceled, no matter what turns the conflict in Ukraine takes.
