Rory McIlroy secures historic back to back Masters victory with record earnings and a dominant final round comeback

Rory McIlroy has added another golden chapter to his Masters legacy, clinching his second consecutive green jacket on Sunday and walking away with a staggering $4.5 million prize — cementing his place at the very top of Augusta National’s all-time earnings list.

After bouncing back from early-round mistakes, McIlroy delivered a composed and determined final stretch to secure his sixth major championship and second straight Masters victory. In doing so, he joined an ultra-elite group of back-to-back champions alongside legends Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods.

This year’s win not only brought prestige but also a significant financial boost. The 2026 Masters purse rose to $22.5 million, up from $21 million in 2025, with McIlroy’s winner’s share increasing by about $300,000 compared to his previous triumph. Interestingly, the difference between his 2025 and 2026 winnings is only slightly more than the price of a new Aston Martin Vantage S Roadster — a luxury detail fitting for golf’s biggest stage.

With this victory, McIlroy now stands as the highest earner in Masters history, surpassing the cumulative tournament earnings of multiple past champions, including five-time winner Tiger Woods and three-time champion Phil Mickelson.

Runner-up honors went to two-time Masters champion Scottie Scheffler, who earned $2.43 million after a strong final-round push. Despite a brilliant performance, Scheffler’s payout was notably lower than his winning total from the 2024 Masters, highlighting the unpredictable swings of Augusta fortune.

A group of four players — Justin Rose, Tyrrell Hatton, Cameron Young, and Russell Henley — rounded out the top tier, each taking home more than $1 million for their strong finishes.

McIlroy entered the final round tied at the top before briefly losing the lead, only to regain control and close out the tournament with trademark composure — a finish that once again reminded fans why he remains one of golf’s defining modern champions.
