When pop culture takes over the classroom, even exams can wait.
A college professor from the University of Tennessee Knoxville became an online favorite after filming a hilarious skit about the engagement of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.
Matthew Pittman, an associate professor at the College of Communication and Information, uploaded an Instagram video on Aug. 26, and it blew up swiftly. In the video clip, he was standing in front of his class and addressing the students that their ‘biochem midterm’ was canceled due to the exciting engagement news.

“Due to this information, I can’t focus. You can’t focus. Class is canceled. Get out of here,” Pittman told his students. After hearing this announcement, the students cheered, screamed, and one student even ran out of the room with pure excitement.
It can be heard that one student said in joy, “No way!”
The video instantly spread across the social media. An alleged student reposted it on TikTok, and the video crossed over a million views in less than 24 hours.
Fans couldn’t stop laughing at the idea of an exam-free day. One commented, “Getting out of a midterm is INSANE,” while another wrote, “This is the only correct reaction to Swift and Kelce.” The video went so viral that even Kelce’s New Heights podcast dropped a comment calling him a “W professor.”
The skit was completely planned. Pittman later explained that it was merely a funny way to mix pop culture with his lessons. He even broke down the engagement from a media angle. He predicted that their Instagram post could become one of the most shared of all time.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced that they got engaged on August 26. Swift also showed off a beautiful diamond engagement ring designed by Kelce himself, making the internet collectively lose its mind.
